Everything You Need to Know
WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?
Hypnosis is essentially a state of heightened suggestibility. It is a collaborative process between client and therapist, in which the client allows themselves to be guided by the suggestions of the therapist. Hypnosis uses imagination and visualisation to evoke positive emotions and rehearse behaviour change. The goal of hypnosis is to bring about a state of increased ability to respond to positive suggestions, which is usually accompanied by relaxed attention to the suggestions being given. Hypnosis is completely safe when used responsibly and professionally. Contrary to belief, no one has ever been stuck in a state of hypnosis.
WILL YOU PUT ME IN A TRANCE?
Hypnosis is not a state of sleep or unconsciousness. Although you may be more relaxed than usual, you will remain aware of everything that is being suggested. Hypnosis is also not a state of mind-control. You cannot be made to do anything against your will, and actually you must want to accept the suggestions and actively imagine yourself responding in order to experience their effects.
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL IÂ NEED?
This varies depending on your goals and what you are seeking hypnotherapy for. I should be able to offer a better idea of this following an initial telephone introduction. However, on average, clients generally require between 4 and 6 sessions, including an initial 75-min consultation.
WHERE ARE YOU BASED?
I divide my time between South East London and the Jurassic Coast. You can use my contact form to enquire about in-person sessions in these locations, however the majority of my work currently takes place virtually, via Zoom.
DO YOU OFFER VIRTUAL SESSIONS?
Yes. The vast majority of my work is currently virtual, with sessions taking place via Zoom. This has proven to be just as effective as in-person sessions and is a favourite method among clients due to the flexibility it offers. If you have any concerns about this method, or access requirements, please use the contact form to get in touch.
HOW LONG IS EACH SESSION?
We will begin with a free telephone introduction of around 15 minutes.
This will be followed by a 75 minute initial consultation during which time we will learn more about each other and I will introduce you to hypnosis.
Following the initial consultation, sessions will last 60 minutes.
You will also be provided with exercises and audio recordings to engage with between sessions. These are an extremely important aspect of cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy. We will design these collaboratively, keeping your time commitments in mind.
